Maddie has gained some weight from last year so the vet said she wanted to check her again in a month and make sure she has not gained anymore weight. She went for a bath a few weeks ago and they weighed her and she had gained more than 2 pounds. That was really strange considering she had been sick for a few days and didn't eat much those days. That's a whole other story but basically I got home from work and she had been sick all over the house and continued to be sick through the night so I ended up at the after hours vet at 3 in the morning. So anyway, the vet said she wanted to take her blood and test her thyroid. She called last Monday to say she had part of the results back and normal is between 1 and 4 and Maddie was right at 1. She then said she wanted to wait for the rest of the results and then decide whether or not to put her on thyroid medicine, which she could be on for the rest of her life. The rest of the results came back and normal is from 10-40 and Maddie was an 11. So the vet said she wanted Maddie to take the pills (twice a day and our little Maddie will not take a pill on its own so you have to put a little butter on it) for a month and then retest her levels. I never thought that a dog could have thyroid problems. Crazy!
Yesterday, I called Maddie in from outside to come take her pill (remember that it has some butter on it so it is melting in my hand) and she would not come. Sam was in the exersaucer so I went into the yard to look for Maddie. The gate was open and she was nowhere to be found. I went into the front yard and saw her all the way down the block sniffing at someone's mailbox, which is her favorite thing to do. I yelled at her to come back and she just looked at me. She is very friendly but she jumps on people so I was worried she would find someone outside and they would be scared of her. I went back in and grabbed Sam and put her in her carseat and hopped in the car to go get Maddie. When we pulled out into the driveway, Maddie saw us and came running home. (in the middle of the street while a car was behind her but the people in the car saw me in the middle of the street yelling at her to come back so I knew they saw her and weren't going to hit her) I think she was scared we were leaving her. Oh and all this was after she got stuck under the bed and was crying so I had to go pull her out. She is too big to be under the bed now but she insists on sleeping there some nights. She goes under on Brian's side and scoots all the way to my side and sleeps with her nose sticking out from under the bed skirt.
