Messy Christmas

My parents came over last Saturday to watch the baby while Brian and I ran some errands and went to a movie. One of the errands was picking out a Christmas tree because if we didn't do it that day, we wouldn't have any time until next weekend and it would already be mid-December. So we went and picked out a beautiful tree that was really full and tall for our high ceilings. We got home and Brian and my dad put it in the stand and the next day we put lights on it and decorated it. When it was 1st in the stand we noticed it looked crooked so we tried to fix it. It looked like it was straighter so we proceeded to decorate it. The next few days it looked like it was leaning again. Wednesday I called Brian at work and asked if he could ask his brother to come help us fix the tree because it looked like it was leaning even more. I told my mom about it and told her I thought it may fall. So around 11:00 pm Wednesday night we hear a crash. Brian had just fallen asleep and he woke up and asked what happened. I knew right away that it was the tree. Sure enough, the tree had fallen into our dining room table. It was a mess! There were several broken ornaments, including my favorite Lenox china bride and groom ornament with our wedding date. (they still make it so I can order another one). Brian's head came off of it and I found it all the way in the living room under the sofa! It was such a mess. We had water spilled everywhere, ornaments everywhere, tree needles everywhere. It also put several gashes in our table. The table is distressed so we may get by with the touch up marker but I'll always know the gashes are there. We hurried up and put the tree back up and cleaned up and went to bed and decided to deal with it again later.

My parents came over again this weekend and we took all the ornaments off and Brian and my dad took the whole tree down and had to cut some branches off the bottom and straighten out the cut at the bottom of the trunk. It looks like the tree people cut it crooked and the trunk is a little crooked. After a lot of work they got it back up and as straight as it can be. My mom and I redid the lights and hung the ornaments again. I am hoping it stays up until after Christmas. It really looks pretty now and I don't want to have to decorate it for a 3rd time!

Oh my gosh, that is crazy. I think I would have completely freaked out if I woke up to the tree crashing into our living room.

I'm glad you got it all taken care of.

P.S. It's tradition in our house to have our tree leaning. Shane and I can never get the darn tree straight into the tree stand, so we've just gotten used to it by now :-)
