Brian went out of town for the 1st time this week since we moved into our new house. His company bought a company located in New Iberia so he may have to travel there frequently for a few months. He left Monday morning. On my very 1st day alone, I came home from work, fed Maddie and let her out and changed to go to the gym. I came home after the gym, cooked some pasta, ate, and took a shower. Around 7:30, I was finally ready to sit down, relax, and watch tv. Let's just say that didn't happen.
As soon as I sat down, Maddie started crying so I got up and took her out in the backyard. I had boxer shorts and a t-shirt on with slip-on tennis shoes. I had no intention of going anywhere and was in for the night. I took our home phone outside with me and while out there, my dad called and said they might stop by as they were in Slidell on their way home from Mississippi. Then they decided not to because it was getting late. So I hang up the phone with my dad and turn to go inside and the DOOR IS LOCKED!!! I don't know how it happened. I am stuck in the backyard in my pajamas! We don't have long distance on our home phone so I can't call my parents back. I tried Brian's brother but he wasn't home. I would have tried the McCarthy's but I didn't know the number. I called 1-800-collect and the lady was rude and said the # I wanted to call was a cell phone and they don't accept collect calls. So then I have a brilliant idea to call ATT to add long distance to our phone plan. I talk to this strange guy who said he could add long distance and it would be no problem. He kept asking for info he should already have. I refused to give him my SS#. He then asked if I lived in Mandeville Los Angeles. What?? Next he says he has to transfer me and then he said the section he had to transfer me to was closed for the day!
Now I have no choice but to go to a neighbor's house in my pajamas. I went to house on the right and no one was home so I had to go on the other side to the older couple's house. Brian has met the man before and I have met the wife. So the man (Mr. Pete) opens the door and I told him who I was and what happened. They let me in and let me use their cell phone. I called my dad, who was now in New Orleans East, and told him what happened, so they turned around and headed toward my house (good thing I gave my mom a key last week!!) Ms. Carolyn talked to me for a while and offered to let me wait there but I had to get back to Maddie in the yard. She hates to be by herself - she's a baby! As soon as I left the neighbor's house, I could hear her yelping and barking for me. So I went back in the yard and sat on the swing to wait for my parents. It got dark and the mosquitos were terrible. I have 5 million bites today and am really itchy. Mr. Pete came out into his backyard a little while later and told me my parents were almost here. They must have called his cell back because they didn't know where I called from. Maddie by this time has had enough of outside and wants to go back in and we are now sitting in the darkness. Brian calls on the house phone and I tell him what happened so he called my parents to tell them I had the house phone and they could call me. They called to say there were in the neighborhood and they finally got to my house! Maddie and I both ran inside into the AC. Of course by the time I got inside again, I had to take a second shower.
As it that wasn't bad enough, Tuesday morning Brian calls to tell me he has my license that he carried for me on Saturday. We didn't go anywhere Sunday so I didn't realize I didn't have it. He mailed it to me and I should get it today.
Do I even have to say that my first week alone in Mandeville has not been good??
Last night I went back to the neighbor's in my nice work clothes and brought them apple crisp I had baked to thank them. Mr. Pete made fun of me because I had the house keys in my hand :) Everytime I took Maddie out last night I took my keys and cell phone even though I checked to make sure the door was unlocked. Today I even added long distance to our home phone because you never know when you may need it!

You poor thing! How did that happen?!
You should leave a spare key somewhere around your house like in a secret place in your garage...just in case!
For my first night alone in Mandeville, I had a friend come spend the night with me...I'm such a baby!
