It's a .........

Not so fast! We're only 8 weeks pregnant! Brian and I are expecting a baby on or about September 6, 2008. We are very excited and Maddie is looking forward to being a big sister!

We found out that I was pregnant the Thursday after Christmas. We went to the doctor on January 17 when we were just finishing 6 weeks. The receptionist made the appointment and said the doctor likes for you to come in between 7 and 8 weeks. She made it a little early because when we went we were only at the end of our 6th week. Anyway, the doctor took an ultrasound and we saw the baby's heartbeat. She wanted us to go back in 2 weeks so she could measure more accurately and she had to decide whether or not to push the due date back by one week. We went back today and everything looks great. The baby already grew a lot in 2 weeks. We saw the heartbeat again and we saw arm and leg buds. The baby was facing us and the doctor tried to make it move by poking it. I think he or she just wanted to sleep. It did move a little bit and looked like it was waving at us at one point. Everything looks on track and the due date is still September 6.

The first picture is the ultrasound at 6 weeks. The baby is in between the 2 x's. It is kind of hard to see because I took a picture of the picture but it came out better than it did when I tried to scan it. The second picture is from today. Look at how much it has grown already.

Brian said the 1st ultrasound looked like a girl and today's looked like a boy. We'll see!

This is what is happening to the baby according to http://www.babycenter.com/.

Webbed fingers and toes are poking out from your baby's hands and feet, his eyelids practically cover his eyes, breathing tubes extend from his throat to the branches of his developing lungs, and his "tail" is just about gone. In his brain, nerve cells are branching out to connect with one another, forming primitive neural pathways. You may be daydreaming about your baby as one sex or the other, but the external genitals still haven't developed enough to reveal whether you're having a boy or a girl. Either way, your baby — about the size of a kidney bean — is constantly moving and shifting, though you still can't feel it.
