As of Friday, June 15, 2007, Brian and I are officially homeowners. We are so excited!! We love our new home!!
On Friday, we had our final inspection and the act of sale. The rest of the day gave us a few headaches as we went to the water company and they said our water could not be turned on until Monday. I called last week and they told me I could sign up over the phone for a charge. I called Brian to see if he wanted to do that and then I called back to sign up and they said I had to come in and do it. Then when we actually did go in, the lady said we could have done it over the phone!
After the water company fiasco, we headed back to Metairie to load up our cars with some items and bring them to the new house and pick up the U-haul we rented from 4 pm Friday to 4pm Saturday. We were supposed to pick it up at ABC Mini Storage. At 2:45, the lady from the storage place called to see when we were going to pick up the U-haul we scheduled for Saturday. I called back to see what was going on and the lady said I had not spoken with her and she did not have our U-haul. She said we scheduled it for Saturday. She told us to call the 1-800 U-Haul number as it was their fault. Brian called her back and was angry and finally she realized she did talk to me and they did have our truck. I think she called the wrong customer! Needless to say, after that phone call, we headed straight back to Mandeville to pick up the U-haul before she gave it away. She was very nice when we got there and kept apologizing to us.
Friday evening Brian and I and my parents loaded up the U-haul. At first it appeared I had ordered a U-haul that was too big but that was obviously not the case as you will see when we get Internet access at home and I upload the pictures.
Saturday morning we headed to the new house to unload and wait for our washer and dryer and refrigerator. (which came from 2 different places but were delivered at the exact same time, which was very convenient). We got a lot accomplished on Saturday. Brian's parents came over to help unload the truck. Well, the guys pretty much did the unloading while the girls started decorating the kitchen :) Now we are almost finished unloading the boxes and wejust need our furniture so we can start decorating.
Brian's dad turned the water on for us so we ended up having water over the weekend so we slept at our new house Saturday and Sunday. It feels so good to finally be in it and have a lot of space. I am most excited for my kitchen. Everything finally has a place to go!
As for Maddie, she is still getting used to her new house and yard. When we got there Saturday I took her throughout the house and yards and she sniffed and investigated. Then she followed us around and would not potty most of the day. When she finally did she would only take one step off the patio and potty or we had to leash her and take her in the front yard. That night we found 2 wet spots in the carpet! The previous owners had 2 dogs so she must smell them so we definately need to get the carpets cleaned. Sunday she did better and explored the yard a little but only pottied when she really had to. I think the grass may irritate her because it needs to be cut. She is definately more hesitant at night as well but I'm sure she will get used to it and love her new home.
I will post pictures this weekend when we get Internet service.
Thanks to our parents for helping us out so much this weekend and Happy Father's Day to the dads!
