4 Months Old!

Avery is 4 months old today! She is growing so fast. She is more alert and so happy - all smiles and giggles. We love her so much! Here is a list of some things she likes and does at 4 months:

* She likes tummy time now and looking at the toys on her activity mat.
* She likes to reach and grab for toys, especially when in her bouncy seat.
* She is on an eating schedule where she pretty much eats 5 1/2- 6 oz. every 5 hours.
* She has been sleeping through the night for a few weeks. She eats at 8 or 8:30, goes to bed between 9:30 and 10 and sleeps until 5-6:30.
* She loves her big sister and will stop crying whenever you turn her to face Samantha.
* She stays awake for longer periods during the day and is perfectly content laying on her back watching toys and her big sister.
* She loves bath time.
* She is not a fan of her car seat and cries whenever the car stops. She does like to be on the Interstate or bridge with constant fast movement and she will stop crying then.

In other news, our Avery girl has a significant flat spot on the back of her head. At her 2 month check-up, the doctor said it felt okay and he didn't think it had anything to do with the bones. It likely either became flat as she was being born or because she always lays on the same spot. He referred us to physical therapy to see what was going on and to make sure nothing was wrong with her neck. That was an ordeal to schedule, but we finally got an appointment after a month. Avery cried the whole time and the therapist couldn't really tell anything. She wanted us back in a month to check her out again. 2 weeks ago, we went to the doctor to get the girls checked out for colds. Our doctor was booked, so we saw a different one. She was concerned about Avery's head, so she talked to our doctor and they decided to send us for a CT scan. That really scared us because when I asked the doctor what they were looking for, she said they needed to check and make sure her skull bones hadn't prematurely fused together. I asked what would happen if they had, and she said we would be referred to a neurosurgeon. Yikes! They called last Friday with the results and said the scan was normal and there were no structural abnormalities! Thank God for that! We went to PT again last Friday and Avery did so much better. The therapist thinks her right neck muscle is tight and we just need to exercise it so she can turn her head more and get off of the flat spot. Now we have weekly PT appts on Wednesdays and we'll see what happens. I am so thankful nothing serious is wrong. Between this, her hight heart rate before she was born and the cyst she had before she was born, she has caused us so much worry. I hope she is getting it out now before the teenage years :) Sam has her daddy's temper so I am hoping Avery is calm like mommy :) I can dream, right?

Charlotte had a flat spot too. Make sure you do the exercises they recommend. I was a wuss and won't force them on Charlotte (she HATED them), and she still has a bit of a flat side on her left side. You can only tell when her hair is wet, but I can tell when I fix her hair. I kick myself every day for not being stronger and making her do the exercises!

I try to do them, but it's hard with Sam! She had a flat spot too, but not as bad. We had PT again this morning and Avery was worn out after. We came home, I fed her, and she took a 4 hour nap! Poor thing!
I keep reading your updates on the baby. I hope he/she stays in there a bit longer and I hope you are feeling okay!
