The whole family has been passing around a sickness since after Christmas. Sam was acting strange after her 4 month check-up but I thought maybe it was the shots. She was a little congested and not sleeping as well. Brian did not feel well that week and into the weekend. This past Monday I started to get a sore throat and I woke up Tuesday and it was really bad. My nose was stopped up as well and burning and I also had a headache. I called my doctor in Metairie but he was booked so I found a doctor over here so I could find out what I had and get some medicine and get well so Sam wouldn't get it too. The doctor said I didn't need antibiotics. He said it was just a cold and would go away within 7 to 10 days. He did give me some samples of something like Sudafed but it didn't help. My regular doctor gives meds and a steroid shot and you feel better instantly, but not this doctor! Anyway, I feel better now but I still don't sound like it and am still congested. And Sam did get worse. On Wednesday she was a lot more congested and in the evening it got really bad. At 4:30 I called the doctor because she was scaring me. She could not breathe well and she would cough and turn red and her eyes would water and she would try to throw up. She didn't have fever though. The nurse said to monitor her and/or bring her to the urgent care center or see Dr. LeBlanc 1st thing Thursday morning. I didn't know what to do. I knew she wouldn't be able to sleep so I called urgent care to see what they would do and they only take babies 6 months and up. So needless to say Wednesday night was scary for me and rough for Sam. She had to sleep in her swing and she did not get much rest at all. I felt like I was constantly syringing her nose and using the saline drops but I didn't feel like I was getting much out. Thursday we went to the doctor and he said she has a cold and a slight ear infection (she never showed any signs and still isn't of the ear infection). They did a flush in her nose and syringed a lot and tested for RSV, which was negative. We're thankful for that! They gave me the syringe and that works so much better than the ones we had. I actually feel like I am helping a little. I have to give her Tylenol and Amoxicillin for the ear infection. It seems like she is feeling better and she is already sleeping better. She slept through the night Thurs night and last night so I am keeping my fingers crossed! I have to say that she is a trooper. I think her sickness was harder on me than her. She really scared me and I felt so bad because I wanted her to feel better. But she hasn't been very fussy and she still is mostly smiles. I hope we all get completely better soon and we stay well for a long time!
On a funny side note, Brian came home Thurs night and asked me if I knew what Maddie had. I said no - I didn't know she had anything. Well, she had the syringe that we were supposed to use for Sam's Amoxcillin. She basically flattened it and chewed it up so I had to make my 3rd trip to Walgreens in 2 days to get another one. And for some reason she also loves to try and steal Kleenex. She likes paper in general - she will steal toilet paper if you let her in the bathroom with you, she likes paper towel and toilet paper rolls and when you are eating she will try and steal your napkin!

My goodness, I hope all of you are feeling better!
Chase never showed any signs of ear infections either, and he had them all the time. I always felt horrible making him go through that pain with no relief. He ended up getting tubes in his ears which made a huge difference (but he had tons of ear infections before we had to do that).
As for the syringe, a nurse in the hospital showed me a trick when we had Chase there with RSV. She said to hold one nostril close and do it on an angle while you suction. It really does help get a lot of the mucus out.
Hope you ALL get to feeling better soon.
I heard a trick of putting vicks vapor rub on babies feet with socks will also help them breathe when sick. I didn't hear about it until mine were much older, but its worth a try.
I never knew if mine had ear infections until they were BAD bc they didn't show much signs of them!
